Chicago PARK(ing) Day 2010 Events

PARK(ing) Day is coming this Friday, September 17th to cities around the world who are united in reclaiming public space for people (and not cars!).  Chicago has its share of events going on.  Stroll or roll by one of these installments on Friday and exercise your right to relax in reclaimed park(ing) space:

  • University of Illinois at Chicago's Office of Sustainability and the Urban Planning and Policy Student Association are hosting two PD events -- one for each side of campus.

  • Strawville, a Lakeview-based organization committed to sustainability, will be hosting it's 2nd annual PD event at 3552 N Southport Ave.  They have teamed-up with fellow retailers on the block to create a block-long (both sides!) PD installation.  Their web-story about PARK(ing) Day and their event also attempts to explain the sad ramifications of the city council's approval of the 75-year lease of Chicago parking meters.

  • Urban Habitat Chicago, a 5-year-old Chicago-based sustainability organization, is hosting a PD event outside of Revolution Brewing (2323 N Milwaukee Ave) in Logan Square.
